Donald Towns is an American fine artist currently residing in Virginia following a 35-year career in feature films as an animation illustrator and art director with the Walt Disney Company in California. He has enjoyed several years of retirement in Tehachapi, California.

Towns attended the American Academy of Art in Chicago with a major in architectural illustration and minor in watercolor and oil painting before moving to California. His work has been featured at Walt Disney World and Tokyo Disneyland, the Municipal Art Gallery in Hollywood, California, Pennsylvania’s Lancaster Museum of Art and History and galleries in Tehachapi. It was in Tehachapi that Towns began to find time to paint in plein air and in his studio. Towns was a member of the committee that chose art pieces for the walls and garden of Tehachapi’s new hospital. He is a member of the California Art Club and still serves on the board of the Tehachapi Arts Commission, an organization that has held a nationally recognized art show in Tehachapi for the last five years.

Towns’ love of music and the peace he finds reflected in the natural world are the primary inspiration for his work. His paintings are often indicative of his fascination with the way light interacts in nature to bring out color.
